Spicy Apple Cake

½ cup butter
1 1/3 cups sugar
2 eggs beaten
1 tsp salt
¼ tsp ground nutmeg
2 ½ cups peeled chopped apples
¼ tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
¼ tsp ground allspice
1/3 cup water
¼ tsp cinnamon
2 cups flour
1/3 cup raisins


Combine butter, sugar, eggs, salt, allspice, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix well. Stir in apples and raisins. Sift together flour, baking powder and baking soda. Add to first mixture. Stir in water. Spread in well-greased 9” square baking pan. Bake in 350 oven 40 minutes or until done.

Topping

3 T butter
¾ cup brown sugar firmly packed
1/3 cup nuts-optional
3 T milk
1 ¼ tsp light corn syrup.

Combine butter, brown sugar, milk and corn syrup in saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and add nuts. Pour over hot baked cake. Makes 9-12 servings.


King Family Baked Beans

1 big can Van Camp's pork and beans drained
½ bottle ketchup salt and pepper to taste
6 slices bacon cooked and cut into small pieces
1 cup brown sugar

Pour beans, ketchup sugar, salt and pepper into a large oven safe bowl, mix and add cooked bacon pieces to top. Bake at 325º to 350º until bacon is brown, About 45 minutes to an hour.
